chrome

Chrome is all reflective so it makes it really hard to photograph. Techniques can be used to make it less difficult for example making a light "tent", that means the photographer builds up the lights having about two on the side and one above. Another way it can be made a bit easier is if the photographer users flat subjects instead of round objects. When it shooting chrome it is very important to have a black and white lines down the side of chrome object to show how shinny the object is.

glass

when shooting glass it is important that the photographer is shooting though the glass and for the light in the background. Usually only one light is all that is needed but more can be added and glass is never lit from the front because it absorbs the light. There are two types of glass photography light field and dark field. A light field is when the glass is light and the background is black, cloth is put on the two edges of the softbox behind the glass so the middle is light. The other style is dark field is achieved having black cloth in the middle.

In class we had workshop on macro photography. We had to take two photos one at half size and one at 1:1. The photo had to be taken with two different cameras so we used a hasselblad and a canon 50D. The 1:1 means that from where the photo is taken and it is measured from corner to corner that is how big the sensor is. In the workshop we were also given equations such as

medium format

These photos were taken with the digital medium format cameras at CIT. The brief for the photos were to as if they were taken for "TIME" magazine. Two photos had to be taken one to be used as the front cover and the other for a double page spreed. The photo of Amie is the corporate front cover. The other photo is the double page spreed using the product, when taking this photo we had to make sure that nothing was in the middle so it wouldnt be cut by the gutter. The medium format cameras that we used were Hasselblads, we had it connected to the computer while we took the photos. I found that the amount of detail that was achieved with the medium format cameras was amazing.

small products

we had to take a photo of a small product without using a softbox, it also had to look like it was in the place the it would be used for example the kitchen. We made somewhere that looked like a shed or workshop because our product was a tape measure.

(helpful notes, the light was facing away from the tape measure then we had a reflector that bounced the light in and we had a reflector on the other side as well. What we didnt but should have done was to have the brand shown and the camera looking down on the product so the numbers on the tape measure were able to be seen)
